Boys on the Road on Friday 13th.

Our U12 Boys travelled to Cavan on Friday 13th. in very bad weather conditions. Between the bad weather and the bad directions to Cavan Sports Centre, Rockets arrived a half an hour late! It was a very tight match with with Aaron Walsh playing his first match for the Rockets. It was a low scoring game with the Rockets playing their hearts out and it was all square at 8 all at the final whistle. Unfortunately Adam Kealy who had played full 0f spirit was fouled out and was badly missed for extra time when we lost by a single basket.

The U14 Boys had much better luck in Cavan and played out of their skins. In particular Ronan Smith was on fire with plenty of steals and lay-ups , putting the Rockets into a good lead at half-time. All the substitutes were brought on and they all played excellently with Padraig Scurry scoring a great outside shot. U14 Rockets were playing so well the opposition only managed to get one basket and Rockets came home the easy winners.

Weather Causes Postponement

Due to the severe weather over this weekend Longford Falcons have requested that we postpone all matches due to be played in the Community Centre this Sunday, Nov.22nd.
They have been badly hit by flooding in the western and midland region and were unwilling to make the journey. We were happy to facilitate their request in the circumstances.
The affected Rockets teams were Girls U14 & U16 as well as Boys U14, U16 & U18.
We will advise when the re-fixture has been arranged.

U12 Girls win a thriller!

On Saturday 14 November, U12 Girls, Dunshaughlin Rockets took on Dundalk Ravens in the Dundalk Sports Centre. It was a very tight match, and at half time it was Rockets 6, Ravens 8.The teams had a good team talk and came back on fighting. The last 2 quarters were very tight. Ravens and Rockets battled right to the last buzzer, but Rockets took the glory in the end, leaving the final score Rockets 13, Ravens 11.
Kelly, Rachel Ennis, Ailis, Holly, Emily, Caoimhe, Aoibhe, the two Ruths and Sadhbh played an excellent match and deserved the win. Most of the team has only started in September, and it was a great first win.

Some Shooting Practice

It seems to us that many of our teams could do with some shooting practice so we thought they might benefit by watching this guy in action.
You have a few weeks before we check back to see if you are improving !http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUv18zfYCHQ

U18 Boys lose an opponent

News has just come through today that the Killinkere U18 Boys have withdrawn from the league. Apparently they had difficulty in getting a commitment from enough players to fulfill League requirements. It's a shame to lose out on two games but, "c'est la vie."

Injury hits two squads.

Our U16 and U18 squads have been hit with an injury to key player, Chris Taylor.
Chris was unlucky to be injured during an U16 match v Oldcastle earlier this week.
While not too serious it will still require him to rest up for the next few weeks and probably puts him out until after Christmas. He'll go mad !
We'll have to keep him busy at the table in the meantime. Hurry on back Chris.

New Players Always Welcome

We are almost always willing to accept new players to the Rockets.

Just this week we are delighted to greet Eoghan Quinn and James Reynolds who join us at U12 level. At U16 level we welcome Aaron Flanagan and are delighted to see Luke Crawley back with us too at this grade. Meanwhile David O'Shea adds much needed height to our U18 crew. Hope you all enjoy your basketball with the Rockets lads - but where were you all for the past few weeks?

U14's have a budding reporter in their ranks !

ROCKETS REPORT
U14 BOYS
On the 7th November the boys U14 headed to Streete for the first match of their season with their new coach Gerry McDonnell. It was a tight game throughout, but Streete pulled away towards the end of the last quarter. In a desperate attempted for a basket with 10 seconds to go Aaron Kealy took a shot in his own net!! Thankfully he missed.

The score finished at
19 – 16 to Streete.

ROCKETS REPORT
U14 BOYS

On the Monday night of the 9th November the boys under 14 travelled to Oldcastle. The score in the match was quite tight and after 4 quarters of basketball the teams were level. 3 minutes of overtime was played and Dunshaughlin came out victorious with a score of 24 – 23. With the players returning home past 11 o’clock, I’m sure there was a lot of tired people in school the next morning - but it was worth it !

U16 Girls Get the Season Going

The Rockets 09/10 season got off to a start last Saturday 17th October with a home game between our U16 Girls and Drogheda. With the electronic scoreboard working and manned by Kevin Fitzmaurice and Kelly O'Dwyer taking responsibility for the scorepad the club was ready for the game.
The team included Niamh Bedford, Siobhan Scurry, Orlagh Thompson, Aoife Sheehan, Dervla Kavanagh, Erica Coombes and Roisin Bruce (who also plays for the U14’s ). Louise Griffin, unfortunately couldn't make it.
Orlagh Thompson started the scoring for Rockets and after the 1st quarter they trailed Drogheda by only 3 points. The 2nd quarter was a great quarter to watch with some marvellous scores coming from fast breaks and lovely taken lay-ups. At the end of the quarter both teams had scored 5 baskets each. Tiring somewhat the team just scored twice in the third quarter but in the forth they outscored Drogheda. However, they never recovered from the 3 point lead in the 1st quarter and the match finished Rockets 27, Drogheda 30. The girls should be very proud of their performance and this writer feels that they have a great season ahead of them.
The girls are home to Navan next on Nov.7th. It should be a good one !

Thanks for your time

Rockets Basketball Club would like to thank coaches Ciara Lynch and Mary Whelan for their work and efforts with us.
Ciara was with us last season at U12 level and spent a large portion of the summer months doing voluntary work with the street children of the Phillipines. We are full of admiration. We know that Ciara will continue to promote Basketball in St. Seachnall's.

Mary had been with us since the start of the club and has worked hard to improve fitness levels and tactical standards particularly with the boys of the Club. A hard task-master, she was unflinching in her demands and many of our players have improved significantly due to her direct input. We hope to see Mary reffing some games for us this season.
Once more ,a large Thank You to both ladies for your contribution to our club.
